CBS:  US to Draw Up New Iran Attack Plans

By: Peter Ryan / Associated Press / April 30, 2008

"The Pentagon has ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran, CBS reported Tuesday, as a second US aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf.

"According to the report, the planning was being driven by what one officer called the 'increasingly hostile role' Iran is playing in Iraq—smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.

"Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said that 'what the Iranians are doing is killing American servicemen and women inside Iraq.'

"CBS said that US officials were also concerned by Iranian harassment of US ships in the Persian Gulf as well as Iran's still growing nuclear program. The television channel cited new pictures of Iran's uranium enrichment plant which showed the country's defense minister in the background, in an apparent deliberate attempt to mock the recent New Intelligence Estimate which said Iran had ceased work on a nuclear weapon.

"Last week, Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen warned Iran not to assume the US military can't strike."

US warns Iran of retaliation over Iraq action

By: Sarah Baxter /  TimesOnline / April 27, 2008

"America's top military officer has ratcheted up the pressure on Iran by issuing an unusual public warning that the Pentagon is planning for 'potential military courses of action.'

"Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, blamed the Iranian government and Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard for its 'increasingly lethal and malign influence' in Iraq. He said conflict with Iran would be 'extremely stressing' for America's overstretched forces, but added: 'It would be a mistake to think that we are out of combat capability.'

"Mullen said he was increasingly concerned about Iran's growing involvement in supplying munitions and training to rebel Shi'ite militias and 'killing American and coalition soldiers in Iraq.'

"Speaking at a Pentagon news conference late on Friday, he said recent operations in the southern port city of Basra had revealed 'just how much and how far Iran is reaching into Iraq to foment instability.'"

2012: Mayans, Nostradamus & The Bible

By: JPost.com Staff /  WashingtonPost.com / April 28, 2008

http://www.raidersnewsnetwork.com/full.php?news=14815

"There has been much talk of late about the supposed doomsday prediction of December 21, 2012 as reflected in the Mayan long calendar. Most of the ancient Mayan codices were burned by Spanish monks in 1521 as works of the devil. A few survived including the so called Dresden Codex. This 74-page codex written on tree bark and apparently from the famous Mayan temple and observatory at Chichen Itza was sent by Cortes to Emperor Charles V in 1519. Somehow it found its way to the Royal Library at the Court of Saxony in Dresden where it was purchased from a private collector by Johann Christian Goetze. While it was damaged by the fire bombing of Dresden during WWII, much has survived.

"From this work, which was written between 1200 and 1250 AD, numerous astronomical and calendar data points were found including information on eclipses, the transit of the planet Venus as well as information on the motion of the moon, stars and the sun. It has been determined by research scholars that the Mayan long count calendar ends on 13.0.0.0.0 which equates to our date of December 21, 2012 at 10AM GMT. On that day it has been surmised the end will come.

"According to my research, many have tried to tie this upcoming apocalyptic winter solstice day with a solar shift, solar storms, and a transit of Venus as well as with severe earthquakes. Is there any truth to these allegations? According to some astronomers, on this day our solar system will intersect with the Galactic Equator which only happens every 26,000 years. Since the Mayan calendar began in 3114 BC, they had never experienced anything like this before. The Mayans called this event the Sacred Tree. This alignment with the center of the galaxy also allows for maximum mass and thus maximum gravity.

"NASA predicts that a terrific solar storm will hit the earth in 2012 which will be 30-50 percent greater than anything before it.

"There has even been talk of a polar shift which could disrupt the functioning of the entire earth and could change the axis of rotation. Such a shift has taken place in our geologic past and could happen again. If it happened on December, 21, 2012, it would truly be a day to remember.

"This apocalyptic date of December 21, 2012 is also supposedly found in Hopi myths, the I-Ching, Aztec writings, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Roman Oracles, writing of Seneca Elders, the chief Shaman of the Cherokee Tribe in NC, and even the writings of Nostradamus, The Russian mathematician Sergey Smelyakov of Khartov University taking the constant Phi (1.6180339), the so called Golden Mean or the Fibonacci sequence, and applying it to solar activity and planetary orbits, found that everything seemed to spiral in on itself on December 21, 2012 implying a time implosion or point of bifurcation."

Blood Moon Eclipses: 2nd Coming in 2015?

Minister uses NASA forecasting to study signals of Jesus' return.

By: Joe Kovacs / WorldNetDaily / April 30, 2008

"Will Jesus Christ return to Earth in the year 2015?

"And can studying NASA's website provide evidence for such a scenario?

"A minister who promotes the Old Testament roots of Christianity suggests a rare string of lunar and solar eclipses said to fall on God's annual holy days seven years from now could herald what's come to be known as the "Second Coming" of Jesus.

"'God wants us to look at the biblical calendar,' says Mark Biltz, pastor of El Shaddai Ministries in Bonney Lake, Wash. 'The reason we need to be watching is [because] He will signal His appearance. But we have to know what to be watching as well. So we need to be watching the biblical holidays.'"

Morgan Stanley Sees Big Bank Woes Just Beginning

By: Joseph A. Giannone / Reuters / April 28, 2008

NEW YORK (Reuters)—Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS - News) analysts on Monday told clients to 'sell the rally' in financial stocks, slashing forecasts for big bank earnings and warning that the current credit crunch is only just beginning.

"In aggregate, Morgan Stanley reduced its estimates for 2008 large bank earnings by $17 billion, or 26 percent, and reduced 2009 forecasts by $13 billion, or 15 percent. The analysts expect higher loan losses and expenses, offset by higher net interest income, though profits could fall further still if the Federal Reserve stops lowering interest rates.

"'More capital hikes and dividend cuts (are) coming as our credit deteriorates and forward earnings decline,' analysts led by Betsy Graseck wrote in a report. 'We think we are only in the third inning of the credit cycle and expect this credit cycle will be worse than (the slump in) 1990-91.'"

Gasoline May Soon Cost a Sawbuck

Big New Shock at the Pump Forecast by Two Analysts

By: Dan Dorfman  / The New York Sun  / April 28, 2008

"Get ready for another economic shock of major proportions—a virtual doubling of prices at the gas pump to as much as $10 a gallon.

"That's the message from a couple of analytical energy industry trackers, both of whom, based on the surging oil prices, see considerably more pain at the pump than most drivers realize.

"In Manhattan, at a Mobil gas station at York Avenue and East 61st Street, premium gas is now $4.03 a gallon. Two days ago, it was $3.96.

"These increases are taking place before the all-important summer driving season, signaling even higher prices ahead.

"Oil recently hit an all-time high of nearly $120 a barrel, more than double its early 2007 price of about $50 a barrel. It closed Friday at $118.52.

"The forecasts calling for a jump to between $7 and $10 a gallon are based on the view that the price of crude is on its way to $200 in two to three years."

Your Chuckle for the Day

They Walk Among Us:

I walked into a Starbucks with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a Grande Latte.  I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little chalkboard that said, "Buy one-get one free."  "They're already buy-one-get-one-free," she said, "so I guess they're both free."   She handed me my free Lattes and I walked out the door.

One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of them shouted, "Look at that dead bird!"   Someone looked up at the sky and said, "Where?"

I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center was open.  I told him, "The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."   He responded, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?"   Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, "Uh, Pacific."

I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands.  "Now," she asked me, "has your plane arrived yet?"

While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go.  He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6.  He thought about it for some time before responding.   "Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6 pieces."
